Accommodation

The Volunteer Uganda Lodge

The VU lodge was purpose built to accommodate up to 50 volunteers. Designed in a hostel style, the main building serves as a social area, dining room and has very affordable bar as well as pool table. It is spacious, has plenty of seating and is equipped with everything from projector and blackboards to pool table and sound system. It can quickly turn from dining room, to training venue, to party palace. Volunteers stay in dorms split by gender. The dorms have mosquito nets and bedding provided and there are western showers and bathroom facilities at the lodge. The lodge is stunningly located, overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to 300 of the 600 remaining mountain gorillas in the wild.

Life at the VU lodge

Closeup of the Volunteer Uganda Lodge

When volunteers are not teaching or out on a safari, the lodge makes for a great place to relax and have some downtime. The lounging areas make a great place to unwind and read a book. We run lots of fun events and themed nights. Volunteers can expect lots of barbecues, fancy dress parties, camp fires and guitars, 70p beers, talent shows, pool tournaments, birthday parties and plenty more to make for a great social atmosphere. The fantastic social side to VU is one of the reasons most volunteers stay involved and our UK social events are so well attended. Our British and most of our Ugandan staff live on site at the lodge and are always on hand if you need help with anything, as well as being up for getting involved in whatever is going on. Our vehicles are also based at the lodge and it?s often possible for volunteers to get a lift into town to watch sport or if they are invited to dinner by members of the local community.

Food and Drink

Volunteers at the Lodge

All food is included at the lodge and you?re sure to be best buddies with our staff who cook up a storm every night. We cater for vegetarians and so far volunteers have been pleasantly surprised at how tasty the food is. Schools provide basic food for their staff so at schools volunteers eat with their fellow teachers. We boil spring water from the site for drinking and tea & coffee is always available. We have a great bar.
