The kids were fantastic.
I felt very sad to be leaving them as they made the experience unforgettable and worth more than I could ever describe in words.

Most volunteers come to Africa to make their contribution to the local community. But you really should see Uganda while you are there! The following excursions are INCLUDED IN THE COST of all packages:
We also run some fantastic optional excursions to make your volunteer adventure truly outstanding.
Most of our volunteers are working to a tight budget, but going on safari for a few hundred pounds or trekking to the “gorillas in the mist” is an opportunity that you may never have again!
Optional excursion prices for 2012 are:
| Excursion | Cost |
| Bungee Jump over the Source of the Nile | £70 |
| White Water Rafting at the Source of the Nile (full day) | £120 |
| Two day Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park | £260 |
| Great Ape Encounter; Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge | £120 |
| Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of few remaining habitats | £450 |
Note: Permits for the Great Ape Encounter and for Mountain Gorilla Tracking are strictly limited by the wildlife authorities. You should pay for these as soon as possible so we can apply for permits. If we can’t get a permit, we will refund you in full.

Volunteer Uganda does not charge you to volunteer. All the money you pay is spent on running the trip, on developing volunteering facilities and on the Volunteer Uganda charitable projects.
Your payment goes towards the cost of providing effective training, ongoing mentoring and placements to facilitate well-thought-out volunteering with a tangible impact. It covers all food, accommodation and local transport. We employ a growing team in Uganda including teaching mentors, catering staff and experienced drivers. Our experienced group leaders from the UK live on site with volunteers. Two 14-seater 4x4 safari vehicles transport volunteers to and from their placements. The Volunteer Uganda Lodge was purpose built to accommodate volunteers in a comfortable and fun hostel-style environment.
Our team, the local community, the staff and pupils at our partner schools enormously appreciate the valuable contribution of our volunteers. To our knowledge, no other organization provides a comparable level of training, support and organization of teaching placements. We believe that without this investment, our volunteers would be unable to have the level of impact they do, nor as valuable and enjoyable an experience.

You need to budget for your travel to Africa, health arrangements and personal spending money:
Thanks to Leo for his fantastic video which gives a great feel for his three months volunteering at Kirima School
Most volunteers need to fundraise in order to finance their trip.
We encourage fundraising as it spreads the word about our programme and the life changing work done by the Volunteer Uganda charities. It can also look great on a CV and be a lot of fun.
Lots of students are currently fundraising to come and volunteer.
Many people will happily contribute towards the cost of your volunteering ... but probably not for your excursions ... so you should start by working out the cost of the adventure package plus your flights and insurance.

You can fundraise as much money as you want for your school in Uganda. The more the better but £10 can buy a football or £30 a volleyball net. Its great seeing the happiness a contribution can bring!
You can spend the money on your school in the way you see is most valuable when you are out there. Some volunteers’ families or friends like to make a donation for the volunteer to give during their trip.

Tons of students buy and sell Krispy Cremes Donuts on campus. Krispy cremes have a promotion for charities and good causes. Buy a minimum of 10x12 donuts for £37.50. Sell them for £1 each! Completely legal and make £80. This accounts for you eating about 10!
If you can get a few friends on it you can sell hundreds in a day!

If you are still at school or college, ask around, there may be travel bursaries available from your institution or locally.
